The UNC Basketball program was one of five teams to get an official visit scheduled with class of 2021 five-star recruit Paolo Banchero

While plenty of recruits from the 2020 class are scheduling their official visits to for the Fall, including some to Chapel Hill, the 2021 class is also making some news.

The North Carolina Tar Heels have just one offer out to a 2021 player, offering five-star power forward Paolo Banchero a month ago. Banchero’s recruitment is starting to pickup as he has a total of 14 offers and now he’s scheduling visits.

On Tuesday, the Washington native scheduled five official visits and is going eastward for four of those including North Carolina. The Tar Heels will get the first official visit for Banchero as he will be on campus the weekend of September 27th for the annual Late Night With Roy event.

Banchero revealed his official visits to Rivals’ analyst Corey Evans on Tuesday:

"Instead, Banchero will head eastward for four of his five official visits. He will begin things at North Carolina on September 27 before attending Big Blue Madness at Kentucky on October 11. From there, Duke will host Banchero on October 17, and will complete the month at Tennessee on the weekend of October 25.Gonzaga has become a destination program for the best nationally in recent years and will kick off the 2020 calendar year by hosting Banchero on January 18. Further unofficial visits could be taken throughout in the future with Washington the likeliest to host Banchero in such a capacity."

In addition to the official visits, Banchero will also take an unofficial visit to Gonzaga on September 7-8 according to StockRiser’s Jake Weingarten. While Banchero has prioritized these five programs, he’s not cutting his list just yet and other programs are still interested and involved.

The No. 4 overall player in the 2021 class has also flirted with the idea of reclassifying to 2020 but according to Evans, that does not appear to be the plan. Instead, he intends on staying in the 2021 class.

There is still a long ways to go until Banchero makes his decision and all early indications are that Gonzaga might be the team to beat. They are the only West Coast team that was listed on those five official visits but the fact that UNC is getting a visit is a good sign.
