UNC Basketball: Analyst predicts where top UNC recruiting targets will go
Greg Brown
"“The elite of the elite when it comes to athleticism in the high school game, Greg Brown caused a ruckus last week when he released his final school list,” Evans said. “It wasn’t surprising that Auburn, Memphis, North Carolina and Texas made the cut. But Kentucky? That can only mean that the Wildcats have some momentum going in their favor. They do have some more work to do, however, because Texas remains the favorite thanks to the relationship that Shaka Smart has developed with Brown. Plus, the nearby location to Brown’s home doesn’t hurt. Brown will take official visits throughout the fall and winter months, but he will sign late. Texas is in a good spot and UNC has often been talked about, but don’t slight Memphis’ chances.”"
Greg Brown is a player that we’ve long thought would end up at either Texas or North Carolina, but as Evans states in his recent piece, other programs are now getting into the mix. Kentucky appears to be gaining some momentum late in the game, and Memphis apparently has a shot, too.
I still believe that Brown’s decision will most likely come down to the Longhorns and Tar Heels. Unfortunately for the Tar Heels, Brown and Texas head coach Shaka Smart have built a very good relationship throughout the recruiting process. Not to mention, the state’s flagship school is just 12 miles from Brown’s home in Austin.
If I were putting odds on Brown’s recruitment at this point, I’d give the Longhorns a growing edge over the Tar Heels. A trio of national recruiting analysts recently named Texas as the prohibitive favorite in Brown’s recruitment. If Brown leaves the state of Texas, however, I think North Carolina becomes an overwhelming favorite against the likes of Auburn, Kentucky and Memphis. For now, though, his Crystal Ball is currently 100 percent in favor of Texas.
Brown is the No. 8 prospect in the class of 2020. He’s the top-rated power forward in the class, and No. 1 in the state of Texas.
