Top Targets

High Priority

Ziaire Williams

There is no doubt that 2020 forward Ziaire Williams is atop the Tar Heels recruiting board as UNC would love to add a wing in this class. The Tar Heels have been in pursuit of Williams for months now and have remained in contact.

Williams has made a few trips across country to visit Chapel Hill, a good sign for UNC as they battle Stanford for his commitment.

Jaden Springer

The North Carolina native is next on our list of high priority recruits and he’s another player on the wing. With that need on the wing, landing one of Williams or Springer would be big but landing both isn’t out of the question either.

Springer currently plays his college basketball in Florida and throughout his recruitment, the Tar Heels have been the favorites. But as we entered the Summer months, things may have changed with both Tennessee and Memphis picking up some momentum.

Bryce Thompson

Another wing player, shocker right? Thompson raised his stock with a great showing during the Spring AAU circuit and was bumped up to a five-star recruit in the Rivals 2020 rankings.

The Oklahoma native is an ideal fit for UNC’s offense as he’s one of the better scorers in this class but pulling him out of the Big 12 will be tough.

Greg Brown

Williams would love to pair Sharpe with Brown in the post, giving the Tar Heels two dominant players in the paint. While they need some help on the wing, landing a player like Brown could be a program changer.

As it stands now, it looks like Texas and UNC are the favorites to land him.

Ones to watch

Donovan “Puff” Johnson

The younger brother of former UNC standout Cameron Johnson is still trying to figure out where he will play his senior year of high school basketball at after being ruled ineligible in Pennsylvania a few weeks back. But while he does that, Johnson will start scheduling and taking his visits.

On August 3rd Johnson revealed his list of seven finalists, providing a big update to his recruitment.

Joining UNC on that list is Arizona, Louisville, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Pitt and Miami. He also told Stock Risers that he will not reclassify and will stay in 2020.

D.J. Steward

Anything could happen in this recruitment. Despite his 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictor trending 100 percent to Duke for the past few weeks, there is a long way to go in his recruitment.

Steward will plan and then take his visits this Fall and it could be UNC’s big chance to land him.

Long Shots

Cade Cunningham

The No. 2 overall recruit in the class has been a UNC target since they offered him in the Spring and they even made his Top 10 list. However, Cunningham appears destined to end up with Oklahoma State.

Caleb Love

It will be hard for a team to pull Love out of the Midwest as the Missouri native recently trimmed his list down to six. If there was a team to do it, UNC or Arizona could be it but we see Love staying in the Midwest with either Indiana or Kansas.
