Don’t expect these UNC basketball targets to end up in a North Carolina uniform next season

Roy Williams and the North Carolina basketball program are working hard to earn commitments from a handful of the top prospects in the class of 2020. They’ve already got one commitment — 5-star center Day’Ron Sharpe — but have scholarship offers out to more than a dozen others.

With all of the competition in college basketball to sign top-tier talent, coaches from even the most prestigious programs have to cast a wide net in order to hedge their bets. That’s why Williams and the Tar Heels currently have offers out to nine 5-star recruits, as well as an additional six 4-stars. They continue to check in on other prospects, too, in the event that all of the current targets choose other schools.

Speaking of which, there are several players on the North Carolina recruiting board that look like far less likely options than the others. Throughout the offseason months, Keeping It Heel has tracked the movement of each of the Tar Heels’ recruiting targets, and provided the latest news and updates as they became available.

Today, however, we focus on the UNC basketball targets that appear to be heading in a direction other than Chapel Hill, and which prospects fans can remove from their Christmas wish list this year. Take a look at these five UNC targets that are almost certainly headed to a destination not named North Carolina.
