The UNC Basketball program makes the cut for a big five-star power forward and one of the top overall players in the 2020 recruiting class

Stop us if you’ve heard this before.  A class of 2020 recruit has officially made an update to his recruitment by trimming his list of finalists down.

Over the past two weeks we saw the North Carolina Tar Heels Basketball program make the cut for a few prospects lists of finalists, keeping UNC in the running. On Tuesday, it was five-star power forward Greg Brown’s turn.

The 6-foot-9, 195-pound forward out of Austin, Texas officially trimmed his list down to five schools and included the Tar Heels. Here is the tweet he posted to announce his finalists:

Joining UNC on Brown’s list are Memphis, Auburn, Texas and Kentucky, making for some tough competition for the Tar Heels. Brown is ranked as the No. 8 overall recruit in the 2020 recruiting class by 247 Sports and the top player in Texas and at his position of power forward.

Before cutting his list down to five schools, Brown had a total of 17 offers in his recruitment but will now focus on these schools. He’s yet to take any official visits but with this list, he can now make plans to schedule and then take visits.

The Tar Heels already have five-star center Day’Ron Sharpe committed to the 2020 class but adding another elite big man like Brown would be huge. UNC has been a big player in this recruitment, going down to watch him as much as they can.

As for the other teams involved, in-state Texas may have the biggest edge but Brown has visited Auburn unofficially before. Kentucky has been quiet in the recruitment and Memphis could be a big wild card. The next step for UNC should be getting Brown on campus and try to pair him with Sharpe.
