Does the UNC Basketball program have a shot at landing the No. 2 overall player in the 2020 recruiting class? His recruitment might just be Oklahoma State’s to lose…

The North Carolina Tar Heels were one of the five teams to make the cut on Cade Cunningham’s Top 5 list that he released last week.

The No. 2 overall player in the 2020 recruiting class is not only one of the top players for 2020 but he’s also a candidate for being the top pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Cunningham is a player that would fill a void on the perimeter for UNC beginning in 2020 and they could add him to a class that already has five-star center Day’Ron Sharpe verbally committed.

With UNC battling Florida, Oklahoma State, Kentucky and Washington in his final five, the Tar Heels are going to have some tough competition. Oklahoma State is rumored to be the favorites to land the five-star guard after they hired his brother, Cannen, to be a part of their coaching staff and they will be tough to beat for Cunningham.

For Rivals.com recruiting analysts Eric Bossi, Corey Evans and Dan McDonald, there is one clear standout team in this recruitment. And it’s apparently not the Tar Heels.

In their roundtable article that was released on Saturday, the trio offered up their opinions on who the favorite is and all agreed on Oklahoma State. Here is what McDonald had to say about the matter:

"I’d be really surprised if Cunningham went anywhere other than Oklahoma State. Those other four schools have recruited at a really high level lately. but I just can’t see him not following his brother to Stillwater. MikeBoynton is a terrific recruiter and having the family connection on his side will be too much for the other schools to overcome in my opinion."

Bossi agreed and even called Oklahoma State the favorites before they hired his brother to the coaching staff. Evans did say that he was intrigued by the two Blue Bloods, UNC and Kentucky, on the list but also agreed that it was the Cowboys recruitment to lose.

Cunningham should take all of his official visits, giving each team a chance and you never know what could happen. Maybe, just maybe Roy Williams and his staff could pull off a big recruiting upset.
