UNC Basketball: 5-star UNC target transferring schools for senior year
This 5-star UNC basketball target is making a move for his senior season of high school.
In an effort to improve his game before stepping on to a college campus next summer, 5-star class of 2020 prospect Isaiah Todd has decided to transfer from Trinity Academy to Word of God Christian Academy for his senior year of high school.
Word of God, the school that former Kentucky standout and current Washington Wizards point guard John Wall attended before his freshman season with the Wildcats in 2009, hired Byron Williams as its new head coach on Thursday.
"“It’s the best decision for me,” Todd told USA Today. “I got to know Coach Williams a while back, and I really feel comfortable with him. I know he’ll elevate my game. I really appreciate everything about Trinity and all of the people there. This is just what I feel is best for me and my game.”"
Todd has been on the Tar Heels’ radar for some time now, and would be a huge addition to their 2020 class that already boasts 5-star center Day’Ron Sharpe.
The 6-foot-10, 200-pound Todd has consistently drawn comparisons to Chris Bosh and Kevin Durant. He’s known for his seven-foot wingspan, and standing reach of 8-feet-11-inches. Couple that with his tremendous quickness and speed in the open court, and he becomes a mismatch nightmare for almost any opponent. Throw in the polished offensive game that he possesses, and Todd immediately separates himself from the pack. He’s a good defender and shot blocker, but still needs to put on some weight in order to battle with other bigs in the low post.
Current projections in Todd’s Crystal Ball have Kentucky as the favorite, garnering 50 percent of the votes from recruiting experts and analysts. North Carolina is in second-place with 17 percent of the vote, while Kansas and North Carolina State — who is no longer in the running — each have eight percent of predictions.
Todd is the No. 14 prospect in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite for the class of 2020. He’s the second-ranked power forward in the class, and No. 1 in the state of North Carolina.
