Kentucky Wildcats look poised to get commitment from 4-star UNC basketball target

The North Carolina Tar Heels are in the thick of it on the recruiting trail this offseason, involved in a handful of battles for high-profile prospects in the class of 2020.

One of those prospects is top-40 small forward Cam’Ron Fletcher, a rising senior out of Vashon High School in St. Louis, Missouri. Fletcher released his list of five finalists in mid-July, naming Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan State, Missouri and North Carolina as the contenders in his recruitment.

At one point, it looked like Fletcher might be leaning toward a Missouri commitment, having built a good relationship with the local favorite. As Rivals recruiting analyst Corey Evans points out, though, things began to change when Fletcher received scholarship offers from Kentucky and North Carolina. It appears, however, that just one of the blue bloods has now taken the forefront in Fletcher’s recruitment, and looks to be the odds-on favorite to win his commitment.

"“. . .the Wildcats have the greatest momentum with Fletcher,” Evans states. “. . . things have really picked up with Fletcher. Alabama, Michigan State, Missouri and North Carolina round out the remainder of his college list. Missouri was in the best spot for him prior to his string of offers that brought UK and UNC into play. Since then, most of the attention has been geared toward Kentucky.”"

Fletcher’s Crystal Ball is currently in favor of Kentucky with 67 percent of the vote. Missouri is in second-place with 22 percent, while Michigan State is in third with 11 percent.

The 6-foot-7, 195-pound Fletcher is an athletic, versatile wing that plays his best basketball from inside 20 feet. He’s good off the dribble, and excels at driving the lane for close buckets. He’s working on his outside shot, but it’s not where it needs to be to consider him a real threat from long-range. He’s a good rebounder and shot blocker for his position, and his length and quickness should help him to be a very good defender at the college level.

Fletcher is the No. 36 overall prospect in the class of 2020 according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the No. 8 player at his position, and second in the state of Missouri.
