UNC Basketball: New 2020 target set to update list
By Zack Pearson
A UNC Basketball recruiting target in the 2020 class will make a big update to his recruitment when the calendar flips to August
It’s no secret that Roy Williams and his staff are looking to add some talent on the wing for their 2020 recruiting class. With five-star center Day’Ron Sharpe as the lone player verbally committed, UNC is off to a nice start for the class.
But they have some holes to fill.
With Christian Keeling and Justin Pierce only eligible for one year in Chapel Hill and Cole Anthony likely being a one-and-done, the Tar Heels have some holes on the perimeter. Williams and his staff have offers out to several perimeter players in the 2020 class and the hope is to at least sign one.
Most recently Williams and the Tar Heels got involved in the recruitment for four-star combo guard D.J. Steward, offering him a scholarship just days after watching him play at the Nike Peach Jam event. The Chicago native’s recruitment is heating up as he landed an offer from UNC and Duke within a span of four days following the event in South Carolina.
Now he’s ready to make an update to his recruitment.
Steward announced on Monday night that he plans on trimming his list down to 8 schools on August 1:
In addition to making a cut to his list, Steward will also start scheduling and then taking visits to programs.
With the list being cut down to eight, you have to feel good about UNC’s chances to make it and get a visit despite programs like Duke, Indiana, Louisville, Arizona and Texas being involved. As it stands now, the 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictor has Duke as the 100% favorites with six picks.
