Kansas Jayhawks

This is a rival that may have some people scratching their heads a bit. The Jayhawks are a team that UNC hasn’t played since 2013, and only 11 times in their history. And the two programs have played just four times since 2000.

The main reasons for this are the three NCAA Tournament games that have gone in Kansas’ favor in their last three meetings. Not only did they go in the favor of Kansas, they were all blowouts, with the Tar Heels losing by a combined 43 points.

We all remember the 2008 Final Four matchup that was over before the game even started. Or how about the Elite Eight matchup in 2012 that featured Stilman White as the starting point guard position because of Kendall Marshall’s broken wrist that he suffered in the second round against Creighton? The Tar Heels were the much better team, and could have won a national championship that season if it weren’t for the Marshall injury.

Add in the fact that it’s Roy Williams’ old program, and there are a lot of emotions that go into this matchup when it happens.
