UNC Basketball: Jersey numbers revealed for incoming players
By Alec Lasley
The UNC basketball program released which numbers the incoming freshmen and transfers will be wearing in 2019-20.
In what was a total overhaul from a season ago, the UNC basketball program welcomed in six new players to their roster, including two graduate transfers.
After losing a lot from a season ago with the departures of Luke Maye, Kenny Williams, Cam Johnson, Nassir Little and Coby White, the large recruiting class of 2019 was needed in order to try to replace the production from the players mentioned.
With all of the incoming players on campus and starting to get familiarized with the rest of the roster and the North Carolina campus, the jersey numbers for the six newcomers have been revealed, albeit not officially through the program.
Anthony Harris – #0
Originally a Virginia Tech commit, Harris decided to join the Carolina family a day after Cole Anthony picked the Heels. Harris is coming off of a torn ACL, but should be ready to go come the start of the season. He is slated to take No. 0 following Seventh Woods’ departure this offseason.
Other notable recent No. 0: Joel James, Nate Britt
Cole Anthony – #2
The biggest name of the recruiting class is that of top-five recruit Cole Anthony. In what is one of the two most common numbers for Carolina point guards, Anthony will wear No. 2 this upcoming season and look to have the freshman season like Coby White, who sported the number last season.
Other notable recent No. 2: Joel Berry, Raymond Felton
Armando Bacot – #5
Bacot was the second commitment of the 2019 class and was a major reason behind the commitments of Cole Anthony and Anthony Harris. He will look to become one of the next great big men under Roy Williams. Nassir Little wore No. 5 last season for the Tar Heels.
Other notable recent No. 5: Marcus Paige, Kendall Marshall, Tony Bradley, Ty Lawson
Jeremiah Francis – #13
Francis’ availability this year is still somewhat up in the air as he is recovering from multiple knee surgeries that have forced him to miss most of the last two years of basketball. He is a former four-star prospect however. He will take the No. 13 over from Cameron Johnson.
Other notable recent No. 13: Will Graves
Justin Pierce – #32
The last player to join the 2019 recruiting class, Pierce comes as another graduate transfer from William & Mary. The wing will take over No. 32 from Luke Maye, who wore the number for the last four seasons.
Other notable recent No. 32: Ed Davis,
Christian Keeling – #55
One of the best graduate transfers on the market arrives from Charleston Southern and looks to add to the short list of great transfers in Carolina history and follow in Cam Johnson’s footsteps. The last player to wear No. 55 was Wade Moody.
Other notable recent No. 55: N/A
Fans will get their first look at the team when they take the floor again Winston-Salem State on November 1 in an exhibition game to get the season started.
