Isaiah Todd

The UNC basketball program got some good news last month when 5-star big man Isaiah Todd included the Tar Heels in his list of 10 finalists. Roy Williams and the UNC coaching staff have been recruiting Todd for quite some time now, making him one of the program’s top priorities in the class of 2020.

North Carolina is joined on Todd’s top-10 by Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Vanderbilt, UCF and UCLA. In other words, the Tar Heels are going to have to beat out some of the nation’s top basketball programs for a commitment from Todd.

The 6-foot-10, 200-pound power forward out of Richmond, Virginia is ranked No. 14 in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite. A senior at Trinity Academy of Raleigh, Todd is ranked second among players at his position, and he’s No. 1 in the state of Virginia.

Tabbed several years ago as an athletically gifted player with tons of upside, Todd is still working to refine his game, both on the offensive and defensive ends of the court. He’s a good ball-handler for his size, and can score pretty well from all over the court. He’s a good defender and shot blocker, thanks, in part, to his 7-foot wingspan and 8-foot-11-inch standing reach. He still needs to put on some weight, though, in order to battle with other bigs in the low post.

Current projections in Todd’s Crystal Ball have Kentucky as the favorite, garnering 50 percent of the votes from recruiting experts and analysts. North Carolina is in second-place with 17 percent of the vote, while Kansas and North Carolina State — who is no longer in the running — each have eight percent of predictions.

Look for Todd to cut his list down at least one more time before making a decision some time later this year.
