Earl Timberlake

Earl Timberlake is one of the most recent class of 2020 prospects to receive a scholarship offer from the UNC basketball program. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound small forward got the call from Roy Williams on a busy Monday in which the Tar Heels also extended offers to centers Hunter Dickinson and Dawson Garcia.

While scouting Dickinson at the DMV Live event in June, Williams watched Timberlake put up a triple-double for DeMatha in a victory over Bullis. That was all it took, as the Hall-of-Fame head coach reached out to the talented wing just a few days later, officially adding him to the Tar Heels’ recruiting board.

A rising senior from Hyattsville, Maryland, Timberlake has accumulated nearly 30 scholarship offers to this point. Some of the sport’s most prestigious programs are recruiting him, including Cincinnati, Florida, Kansas State, Maryland, Louisville, Ohio State and Virginia Tech. He’s also getting a lot of attention — and offers — from a number of schools in the Northeast like Bryant, Georgetown, Howard, Providence and Rhode Island.

Known for his tremendous size and chiseled physique, Timberlake is a strong, powerful wing with plenty of athleticism and play-making abilities. He can create his own shot, but works best inside the three-point line. He’s an explosive, versatile player on both ends of the court, and should be able to play and defend multiple positions. He’s a capable passer and excellent rebounder, too, and can run the break very well.

Ranked No. 28 in the 2020 class according to the 247Sports Composite, Timberlake is the sixth-best player at his position, and the No. 1 prospect from the state of Maryland. There are currently no predictions in his Crystal Ball, and his recruitment looks to be pretty wide open.
