The New York Knicks are reportedly showing interest in two former UNC Basketball players as NBA Free Agency is set to open up
As the 2019 NBA Free Agency period begins on Sunday night, the rumors are already starting to flare up.
There have been dozens of reports already circulating just hours ahead of the start and a few Tar Heels could be on the move this week. We broke down the scenarios for each of the current former UNC Basketball players set to hit free agency this week and now on Sunday, there has been a report linking the New York Knicks to two of them.
Ian Begley of SNY is reporting that the Knicks are expected to show interest in veterans Reggie Bullock and Wayne Ellington as the new free agency period will begin.
Here is what he wrote in his latest for SNY regarding the Knicks’ targets and how they will attack free agency:
"Other names to keep an eye on: New York and Reggie Bullock have mutual interest, per SNY sources. Bullock, a 6-7 G/F and career 39 percent 3-point shooter, is expected to have several suitors. The Knicks also have interest in veterans George Hill and Wayne Ellington, per SNY sources. Both veterans could bolster the club’s backcourt and are expected to have interest from multiple teams."
Ellington has spent 10 seasons in the NBA, splitting his time with Minnesota, Memphis, Cleveland, Dallas, Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn, Miami and most recently Detroit. Over the past two years he’s developed into one of the top three-point shooters in the league, helping Miami and Detroit reach the playoffs when he was there for the past two seasons.
He’s expected to be one of the better shooters available in free agency and could be had on a team-friendly deal.
As for Bullock, he’s bounced around a bit in the NBA as well. He’s entering his sixth season in the league, splitting time with the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons and most recently Los Angeles Lakers.
Bullock averaged a career-high 11.3 points per game in back-to-back seasons from 2017-18 to 2018-19. He shot 44.5 percent from the three-point line with the Pistons in the 2017-18 season.
