UNC Basketball: Tar Heels offer four-star 2020 center
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Basketball program has officially offered this four-star center in the 2020 recruiting class after Roy Williams watched him play this past weekend
University of North Carolina head coach Roy Williams was out on the recruiting trail doing his homework on post players this past weekend.
First Williams was in Minnesota to watch four-star center Dawson Garcia. Then he followed that trip up with one to Maryland on Sunday to watch four-star center Hunter Dickinson. The head coach liked what he saw from Dickinson and has now officially offered the recruit in the 2020 class.
Dickinson posted on his Twitter account Monday night that he has officially received a scholarship offer from North Carolina, marking the latest recruit to have one from the Tar Heels:
The 7-foot-2, 255-pound Dickinson is ranked as the No. 27 overall player in the 2020 class per 247 Sports and is No. 6 among centers.
UNC’s offer is the 20th for the Maryland product who also holds offers from Louisville, Maryland, Notre Dame, Alabama, and Purdue among others. With UNC getting involved, things could change drastically in his recruitment.
Dickinson is coming off a big performance at the DMV Live Event, scoring 31 points, grabbing 19 rebounds and blocking 4 shots for DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. He’s getting better as the year goes on and we could see him climb higher in the recruiting rankings.
With five-star center Day’Ron Sharpe already signed, Williams has plans to pair him with another good player in the post. Garrison Brooks will be a senior by the time the 2020 recruiting class comes around and Armando Bacot will likely be off to the NBA. Building some depth at the position, even if it is two freshman, is key for the Tar Heels’ future.
We just have to see how it plays out.
