The UNC Basketball program was named the favorites for this five-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class

With the commitment of five-star center Day’Ron Sharpe, the North Carolina Tar Heels are off to a pretty good start in their 2020 recruiting class. Sharpe committed to UNC back in June of 2018 as a four-star recruit and has since moved up to a five-star player.

With a post player like Sharpe, the Tar Heels are hoping he develops into that next dominant big man that can run the floor in Roy Williams’ offense. But they also aren’t done adding to their class, either.

The Tar Heels still have several offers out to prospects in the 2020 class, hoping to add at least a few more players along with Sharpe. One of those targets is five-star small forward Ziaire Williams, who has become the priority recruit for the Tar Heels.

UNC has gone all in on Williams, recruiting him heavily and he’s their top prospect on the board right now. The Tar Heels are currently battling West Coast schools including Stanford and Arizona for the California native but as it stands, UNC has a good shot of landing him.

Rivals recruiting analyst Evan Bossi was in Colorado Springs for the Team USA Basketball camp the past few days and dished on some big recruiting news. Williams was selected as a finalist for 2019 USA Men’s U19 World Cup Team and has the chance to make the 12-man team that will play in the World Cup in Greece from June 29-July 7.

While Bossi was there, he wrote on Williams’ recruitment and UNC fans will love to hear what he had to say:

"Another program who didn’t have any current or inbound players at the tryouts, North Carolina should be feeling good about some targets, primarily Ziaire Williams. The Heels have put in some serious work with the super skilled 6-foot-8 wing and at least at this juncture I would consider them the team to beat."

Hearing that UNC are considered the favorites for Williams is certainly good news at this stage in his recruitment. Williams has already made the cross country trip to visit Chapel Hill and we imagine he will be on campus at some point this Summer or Fall.

Bossi did note that Arizona is starting to pick up some steam in the recruitment for Williams as well. But at this point, there shouldn’t be a whole lot of worry for the Tar Heels and where they stand in this recruitment.

Next. A five-star center plans on visiting UNC. dark
