The lone 2020 recruit for the UNC Basketball program is making headlines with his play and impressing analysts

Class of 2020 recruit Day’Ron Sharpe is really making a name for himself as he enters his senior year of High School. The lone North Carolina commit in the 2020 recruiting class has caught the attention of several recruiting analysts with his ascending play.

Last week, Sharpe was moved to a five-star recruit on both 247 Sports and Rivals’ updated recruiting rankings and even jumped up a few spots.

The 6-foot-10, 250-pound center is quickly becoming one of the best post players in the class and gives UNC a very good start to their 2020 recruiting cycle. Sharpe may just be the next dominant post player for the Tar Heels.

While Sharpe performed well on the Spring AAU circuit, the latest performance by the recruit came at the NBA Top 100 camp in Virginia this week. The camp invites 100 recruits from all over the country to showcase their skills in front of college coaches, analysts and more.

According to a few analysts, Sharpe was among the standouts on Day 2 of the camp as 247 Sports’ Evan Daniels, Brian Snow and Josh Gershon wrote:

"Since landing on the national radar, Sharpe has steadily progressed. He put together a strong spring and he’s strung together a strong two days here at camp. Sharpe is in good shape, is active in the paint and plays hard. He looks to dunk everything in the paint, gobbles up rebounds in and out of his area and finishes shots from close range. In two games, Sharpe is 11-for-20 from the field and averaging 11 points a game. He’s also grabbing 12 rebounds a game, which is second best at camp through the first two game sets."

The thing that stands out about the analysts report on Sharpe is his overall game. They mention that he was 11-for-20 from the field, shooting over 50 percent and he’s also grabbing 12 rebounds a game. Sharpe is averaging a double-double at the camp against some of the top players in the country.

Roy Williams loves having dominant big men that can not only rebound but score as well and we have seen that in years past. Being able to run the floor as a big man is key as well and 247 Sports noted that Sharpe is in good shape.

If Sharpe keeps up this strong play, he could climb the recruiting rankings even more.
