The UNC basketball program has been seemingly given the nickname as point guard university with their success over the last two decades with bringing in and developing great point guards.

It’s always been one of the hardest positions to play in college basketball because there is so much to learn in such little time for Roy Williams freshman point guard. But that’s why they settle for nothing less than great when recruiting their next point guard.

Names like Ray Felton and Ty Lawson started the point guard tree under Roy Williams when he returned to Carolina in 2003. Eventually, it turned into more names like Kendall Marshall, Marcus Paige, Joel Berry and most recently this past year, Coby White.

With White expected to be drafted in the top-10 of the 2019 NBA Draft, he will become the fifth point guard from North Carolina to get drafted since Williams took over the head coaching reigns.

Now enters the next great point guard prodigy to wear the Carolina blue uniform, Cole Anthony.

His combination of scoring, passing, athleticism, and toughness isn’t something you can normally find from a college freshman point guard, but that’s what he brings to the floor every game.

Ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the country per 247Sports, Anthony played his senior season at the prestigious Oak Hill Academy where he simply averaged nearly a triple-double for the season, 18.5 points per game, 9.8 rebounds per game, and 9.5 assists.

He comes in with one goal in mind and that is to win a National Championship, but when his expected lone season at Carolina is over, look for him to be considered to be the best point guard Roy Williams has coached in Chapel Hill and here’s why.
