Two UNC Baseball players were named to the Freshman All-America team on Wednesday morning ahead of the Super Regionals

The North Carolina Tar Heels Baseball program is prepping for their Super Regional matchup with Auburn this weekend, with a trip to the College World Series on the line. UNC is hoping to return to the College World Series after making an appearance last season but falling short.

After dropping back-to-back series in the Atlantic Coast Conference to end the year, the Tar Heels went 4-0 in the conference tournament beating Virginia, Miami, Boston College and Georgia Tech to capture the title. They followed it up by going 3-0 in the Chapel Hill Regional beating UNCW, Liberty and Tennessee.

Auburn will be a tough matchup for UNC but the Tar Heels are very confident going in.

UNC’s success this season was due in large part to their offense, which features some big bats in the lineup.   Two of those bats were freshmen Aaron Sabato and Danny Serretti who were both recognized by Collegiate Baseball on Wednesday morning.

Both Sabato and Serretti were named to the Freshman All-America Team, marking the first time since 2013 the Tar Heels had multiple players achieve that honor:

Sabato was also recognized as the top freshman of the year, being named the Co-National Freshman Of The Year joining Ethan Wilson of South Alabama for that honor. The New York native was named Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year in May.

Sabato hit .341 with 16 home runs and 58 RBI’s in his first season with the Tar Heels. The 16 home runs were a new freshman record for the Tar Heels. He also hit .358 in conference play this season.

Serretti has appeared in 58 games, starting 57 of them while hitting .295 with 18 doubles on the year. He’s held down the starting shortstop position this season and is a good defender at the position.
