UNC Baseball: Tar Heels’ star freshman, others win All-ACC honors
North Carolina’s Aaron Sabato named Freshman of the Year, three other UNC baseball players earn All-ACC honors
The North Carolina baseball team may have finished its regular season on a bit of a low note, but that didn’t stop a number of Tar Heels from earning All-ACC honors.
Led by North Carolina freshman first baseman Aaron Sabato, who was named first team All-ACC and Freshman of the Year, four total Tar Heels earned all-conference honors on Monday.
Junior slugger Michael Busch joins Sabato on the first team, while junior starting pitcher Tyler Baum was named to the third team. Like Sabato, short stop Danny Serretti earned a spot on the All-Freshman team.
Aaron Sabato is having one of the best freshman seasons in North Carolina history, batting a team-high .339 while leading the Tar Heels in hits, home runs, doubles, RBIs, slugging percentage and total bases. His 13 home runs are the second-most for a freshman in team history, and he’s the first Tar Heel to lead the team in batting average through conference play since Colin Moran in 2011.
Following up on a terrific 2018 season in which he was named second team All-ACC, Michael Busch is batting .281 with 12 home runs and leading the team with 63 runs scored and 54 walks.
Tyler Baum has a record of 7-3 on the season, with a 3.91 ERA and a team-high 82 strikeouts. Opposing batters are hitting .266 against him on the season, and he’s given up just 22 walks and three home runs in 13 outings.
Danny Serretti is batting .289 in his maiden voyage with the Tar Heels. He’s accumulated three home runs, 16 doubles, 38 RBIs and 80 total bases on the season, good for fifth-best on the team.
