UNC Basketball: Will Tar Heels show interest in Jalen Wilson?
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Basketball program could show some interest in four-star small forward Jalen Wilson who re-opened his recruitment on Thursday
After landing commitments from five-star combo guard Cole Anthony, four-star guard Anthony Harris and graduate transfers Christian Keeling and Justin Pierce, all within 10 days, it appeared as if the North Carolina Tar Heels were done with their 2019-20 roster.
UNC did have one more scholarship left which would be used for Shea Rush who is set to enter his senior year in Chapel Hill. But with the news of a four-star forward suddenly becoming available, Roy Williams and his staff may not be done after all.
Former Michigan commit, Jalen Wilson, announced on Thursday morning that he is officially re-opening up his recruitment just days after head coach John Beilein agreed to become the new head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Wilson posted this message on Twitter, announcing the news:
The Top 50 recruit should be a player that some big schools are after to add to their 2019 class and one of those programs could be the Tar Heels. Brian Snow of 247 Sports wrote a story on Wilson’s release and named some programs that could be interested.
Among the programs listed was the North Carolina Tar Heels along with Kansas, Florida and Oklahoma State:
"Wilson did inform 247Sports that he intends to look at Kansas, North Carolina, Oklahoma State and Florida, along with considering Michigan going forward.A 6-foot-7 skilled wing, Wilson has proven to be one of the best players in the state of Texas, and was someone the Wolverines won a huge recruiting battle for."
The Tar Heels are presumably out of the running for five-star recruit Precious Achiuwa who is making his announcement this weekend. But they still could have a scholarship left if they decide to pursue Wilson.
Wilson had a total of 17 offers before committing to Michigan but UNC was not one of those teams to offer the prospect.
Rush would be the odd man out in the scholarship department, but the chance to add another Top 50 player to this class would be huge for the Tar Heels.
