The UNC Baseball program moved up in the D1 Baseball poll last week after winning their lone game of the past week

The North Carolina Tar Heels didn’t have an Atlantic Coast Conference series this past weekend, getting a break off before wrapping up the final two weeks of the season. But they didn’t have the full week off.

UNC hosted Liberty last Tuesday for their only game of the week, a non-conference tilt against the Flames. The Tar Heels were able to take care of business, beating Liberty 11-5 to win 7 of their last 8 as we head into an important week.

With the lone win of the week, the Tar Heels were able to move up from No. 15 to No. 13 in the latest D1Baseball rankings, jumping both Texas A&M and LSU in the process. While the Tar Heels moved up in that poll, Baseball America kept UNC right where they were a week ago at No. 14.

For the Tar Heels, the next two weeks will be huge.

It begins on Tuesday as the Tar Heels will host Winthrop and then No. 9 ECU on Wednesday night in Chapel Hill. The showdown against ECU will be the toughest non-conference game of the season for UNC and should be a good measuring stick going into post season play.

But after the two non-conference games, UNC will hit the road to take on Pitt in a three-game ACC weekend series.

UNC enters that weekend series at 15-9 in conference play, tied with Georgia Tech atop the Coastal Division. Miami is just a game behind both teams at 14-10 and Duke is still in it at 13-11.

Pitt enters the game dead last in the Coastal Division at 5-19 and is looking to play the spoiler role this weekend.

A series sweep for UNC would be huge this weekend, guaranteeing themselves that they will be at least tied for the division lead going into that final weekend depending on what Georgia Tech does in their road series at Duke. A Blue Devils series win would be huge for the Tar Heels.
