One of the top targets on the UNC Basketball recruiting board for the 2020 class was a standout at an AAU event last month

The first weekend of the Spring AAU circuit took place two weekends ago, spanning across Atlanta, Dallas and Kansas City. We already gave you some insight on where Roy Williams and his North Carolina staff was at, watching several prospects in the 2020 and 2021 classes.

One of those players is 2020 five-star forward Ziaire Williams out of California. Williams was in Atlanta playing on the Nike EYBL circuit with his AAU team Oakland Soldiers. The Tar Heels were in attendance in Atlanta to watch that circuit and caught a glimpse of Williams while doing so.

Following the event, D1 Circuit put together their MVP and All-First team of five players who stood out at the event. Among them was Williams, who made his debut on the Nike circuit and was very impressive.

Williams was one of five players to make the All-First team, joining Cade Cunningham, Micah Peavy, R.J. Davis and Josh Christopher. Cunningham took home the big honor, being named the MVP of the event but all five players performed well.

Here is what D1Circut had to say about Williams’ performance from that weekend:

"Ziaire Williams made his shoe circuit debut in Atlanta. The 6-foot-9 swingman made a big statement, putting up four double-figure scoring performances while remaining remarkably consistent; Williams shot 52 percent from the floor, 94 percent (30-32) from the line, and 47 percent (8-17) from distance. There aren’t many players that can impact a game in as many ways as Williams, and he’ll continue to be one of the league’s biggest assets as the Soldiers make their way through their schedule."

The 6-foot-7, 175-pound forward out of Sherman Oaks, California is ranked No. 19 overall in the 2020 class by 247 Sports and the No. 5 player at his position. Williams has drawn interest from several programs but it appears as if UNC and Stanford are the two showing the most interest so far.

Both teams have picked up three Crystal Ball predictions on 247 Sports and while Williams hasn’t made any significant updates to his recruitment, it could come down to UNC and Stanford.

Williams has yet to take any official visits but has been to UNC on an unofficial visit back in October and received his official offer in December. We fully expect Williams to be back on campus for an official by the time his recruitment is over.

Next. Outlook for UNC's backcourt during 2019-2020 season. dark
