Returning Guards

Though Carolina brings in three terrific options in the backcourt, they still have two players who will play pivotal roles next season.

Leaky Black and Brandon Robinson enter next year as two of the experienced players in the backcourt.

For both, expect big jumps in their production from a season ago in which they combined for 5.9 points per game and 43.9 percent from three on just 1.9 attempts per game in just an average of 11.1 minutes.

With both players able to play multiple positions, they bring added versatility to the lineup, where Black can play almost four positions, and Robinson can play two.

If neither of them starts, which I expect one of them too, Black will serve more as a backup point guard as he is the most experienced lead guard on the roster, after playing just 23 games last year. His length and ball handling ability is something not many other players have in the country.

For Robinson, he found his role last year as a three-and-D type player. Shooting 46 percent from three last year, he made 23 on the year, with 11 of them coming in the last month and a half of the season. With many great passers again on the team, Robinson will need to step up and be able to shoot, and while probably not 46 percent again, a high 30’s to low 40’s percent three-ball to help space the floor.

Both will be critical players to this teams success this year, and one of them must take a major step up in production if the Tar Heels want to make a deep run come March.
