The UNC Football program lands in the Top 10 for a big five-star in-state recruit who could be a program-changer

Mack Brown and his staff are off to a great start in the 2020 recruiting class, currently holding a Top 10 class after picking up some commitments over the past few weeks. Since the start of his second stint as head coach, Brown has done a great job of recruiting particularly with in-state prospects, something Larry Fedora struggled with during his time as head coach.

Brown has put the Tar Heels in position to land a few big in-state recruits after making top lists over the past few weeks. On Thursday, the Tar Heels were named in top lists for two in-state recruits.

First, it was four-star receiver Muhsin Muhammad III putting the Tar Heels in his Top 8 via an announcement on Twitter. Minutes later, UNC found themselves making the cut for a five-star in-state prospect and one of the top recruits in the country.

Five-star defensive end Desmond Evans released his Top 10 on Thursday night as he made an update to his recruitment. The in-state recruit included the Tar Heels and nine other programs:

Evans’ list features three in-state programs: UNC, Duke and N.C. State but also features some other big programs like Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Florida.

As the No. 16-ranked recruit in the country per 247 Sports, the edge will be a top target for the Tar Heels and could be a very big addition to their 2020 class. By landing Evans, UNC would have its first five-star recruit since 2009 and would almost certainly have them finishing in the Top 15 for recruiting rankings, likely higher.

More importantly, it would also be another big in-state recruit that chooses the program under Brown and his new staff. This is the type of recruit that can do wonders for a program trying to rebuild and get back on track.

Evans has yet to take an official visit just yet but he has been on UNC’s campus for some unofficials. We have to imagine the Tar Heels will be getting an official before his recruitment is up.
