A five-star 2020 UNC Basketball recruiting target dished on the Tar Heels, Armando Bacot and his final 10 teams

The North Carolina Tar Heels picked up two big recruits on Tuesday for their 2019 class, essentially wrapping it up with just the decision of five-star forward Precious Achiuwa left. Head coach Roy Williams and his staff did a great job of landing both Cole Anthony and Anthony Harris in one day on what is considered a very important class for the Tar Heels.

With 2019 pretty much wrapped up, the focus over the Spring and Summer AAU circuits will be on future classes.

UNC currently has just one prospect committed for 2020 as Day’Ron Sharpe offered his commitment back on Father’s Day in 2018. Sharpe is a four-star prospect that is starting to climb the recruiting rankings and a good building block for the 2020 class. The Tar Heels are interested in several top recruits including five-star forward Isaiah Todd.

There was talk that Todd would reclassify to 2019, making him an even sought-after prospect by several top programs. Todd revealed he would be staying in 2020 and that didn’t change the interest he’s getting from programs like UNC, Kentucky, Kansas, UCLA, and Memphis.

Before Todd hits the AAU circuit, he sat down to talk to Corey Evans of Rivals to provide an update on his recruitment.

Todd told Evans that he’s now down to 10 teams in his recruitment: UNC, Kentucky, Kansas, Memphis, UCLA, UCF, Vanderbilt, Oregon, Oklahoma State, and Maryland. He also dished on a few of those schools, including the Tar Heels.

Here is what Todd told Evans about UNC:

"“It is close to home, I love the coaches’ character and it is a family oriented environment. Armando (Bacot) is recruiting me hard, he always has. He has been my guy since the eight grade and we have been on the same AAU teams, so I will probably be hanging out with him more since he will be a lot closer to my home.”"

There is a lot of good in that tweet. Todd is an in-state product that has been on UNC’s radar for a while now. Williams and his staff have recruited him heavily over the past few years and are considered one of the top teams in his recruitment.

The other thing in that quote is his relationship with five-star UNC commit Armando Bacot. The 2019 signee could opt to play more than one year at UNC and if that’s the case, he could play next to one of his good friends in Todd. The two appear to be very close off the court.

Bacot has been actively recruiting for UNC since he picked the Tar Heels in August. He was all over his best friend Cole Anthony and the two even took their official and unofficial visits to UNC together. He’s also talked to several other top recruits, making it clear he loves the program and it potentially opens the door for him staying more than a year.

There is no set date for Todd’s announcement and we are likely many months away but Wednesday’s news sounds a little encouraging.
