Elite power forward discusses college interests, upcoming visits and his timeline for a decision

Despite missing on nearly all of their targets in the class of 2019 — a turn of events that forced head coach Roy Williams to scour the transfer market this offseason —  the North Carolina Tar Heels are still in the running for a few of the nation’s top uncommitted prospects.

Of those prospects, 5-star point guard and consensus top-5 player Cole Anthony appears to be a near shoe-in to commit to North Carolina. But top-20 forwards Matthew Hurt and Precious Achiuwa seem like long-shots for the Tar Heels at this point.

The tide may be changing in Chapel Hill, though, given the early returns on North Carolina’s top targets in the class of 2020.

One of those targets, Greg Brown, is a 5-star power forward out of Vandegrift High School in Austin, Texas that’s strongly considering UNC as his college destination. The 6-foot-9, 195-pound big man is the No. 6 prospect in the country, second in the state of Texas, and tops amount players at his position.

He’s currently sitting on offers from Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, LSU, North Carolina, Texas, Texas A&M and UCLA, among others. Brown began unofficially visiting in-state schools as far back as early 2017, but took a trip to Chapel Hill in March to watch the Tar Heels take on the Duke Blue Devils — a game that North Carolina won 79-70 en route to claiming a share of the ACC regular season title.

Brown recently sat down with 247Sports recruiting analyst Evan Daniels to discuss the visit, as well as his recruitment as a whole, and what’s still on the horizon over the coming months.

"“Just took a visit up to UNC, it was insane,” Brown said. “The game was crazy, insane, the players are really nice, the coaches’ relationship to the players is insane. Just everything about it. I love it there.”"

The top-10 prospect also touched on where he is in the recruiting process, and the plans he has for the immediate future.

"“I’m starting to figure it out a little more. I just released my top-10, and the top-7 is coming out in June or July. I want to go to Auburn, back to UNC of course and that’s where I’m at right now.”"

He also noted that he plans to make an announcement before the start of his senior season.
