UNC Basketball: Tar Heels offer 2020 five-star guard
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Basketball program has officially offered a big five-star shooting guard in the 2020 recruiting class
University of North Carolina head coach Roy Williams is hoping to hear his team’s name called in the coming months for a few recruits that are still undecided. Williams would love to add another perimeter player to his 2019 class and can do so through Cole Anthony, Matthew Hurt or Precious Achiuwa.
While there is still work to be done in the 2019 class, Williams isn’t forgetting about the 2020 class.
On Monday, just an hour before the final game of the 2018-19 season with Texas Tech and Virginia playing in the title game, Williams extended an offer to a five-star recruit in the 2020 class.
Florida native Jaden Springer announced via Twitter that he has officially received an offer from the University of North Carolina:
Springer is one of the top recruits in the 2020 class, ranking No. 12 in the country and No. 4 at the shooting guard position. There has been mutual interest from UNC and Springer but the recruit still didn’t have an offer from the Tar Heels.
That changed on Monday night and now things could get interesting in his recruitment. Springer has a total of 15 offers including from programs such as Tennessee, Auburn, Kansas, N.C. State, UCLA, Virginia Tech and Maryland among others.
He just wrapped up his junior at IMG Academy, winning the GEICO Nationals along with 2019 UNC commit Armando Bacot. Springer played on a loaded IMG team featuring Bacot, Arizona commit Josh Green and Villanova commit Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. Prior to playing at IMG, Springer played his first two seasons at Rocky River High School in North Carolina.
Springer has taken just one official visit but with an offer from UNC, we would be shocked if he didn’t take one to Chapel Hill at some point.
