Roy Williams and the UNC Basketball program has reached out to a former Penn State guard and in-state recruit for the 2019 class

The North Carolina Tar Heels currently have two prospects signed to the 2019 recruiting class with both Armando Bacot and Jeremiah Francis signing their National Letters of Intent.

Bact, a five-star center, highlights the class as he’s ranked as one of the Top 25 recruits in the 2019 recruiting class. Francis was the first player to commit to the Tar Heels in the 2019 class, doing so early on in his recruitment.

With a center and a point guard signed, head coach Roy Williams is hoping to add a few more pieces to finish off the class.

The Tar Heels are still in the running for five-star prospects Cole Anthony, Precious Achiuwa and Matthew Hurt, all who have yet to commit. Hurt will make his announcement on April 19th and there is currently no official set announcement date for either Anthony or Achiuwa.

But a new target has suddenly emerged for the Tar Heels.

Class of 2019 guard and Cary, North Carolina native Justin McKoy was granted his release from Penn State after decommitting from the program. McKoy originally committed to Penn State back in September but is now reopening up his recruitment.

The three-star guard has already heard from a handful of programs since being granted his release and one of those teams is UNC. Justin Byerly of Hoop Seen NC tweeted out that the Tar Heels have indeed reached out to McKoy since he’s become available.

The Tar Heels aren’t the only team to reach out as both Wake Forest and NC State have contacted McKoy over the past week.

Inside Carolina’s Sherrell McMillan published a premium article, confirming the news that UNC has indeed reached out.

With the Tar Heels losing a lot of production from 2018-19, Williams is hoping to reload with a good 2019 recruiting class. Adding a player like Anthony and possibly McKoy would help that cause and could change a lot of things.

It’s only been a few days since McKoy’s recruitment has opened up again but this is something to monitor moving forward.
