UNC Basketball commit Armando Bacot and his IMG Academy team capture the Geico National Championship

Class of 2019 five-star center Armando Bacot signed his National Letter of Intent to play at the University of North Carolina back in November. As it stands now, Bacot is the centerpiece to UNC’s 2019 recruiting class that is also hoping to add over the next few weeks.

While is still months away from stepping foot on UNC’s campus, he’s been participating in his final high school basketball games of his career including a few all-star games.

But when he does arrive at UNC, he will do so as a national champion.

Bacot and his teammates at IMG Academy in Florida took home the programs first ever Geico High School National Championship on Saturday. The annual tournament features the top High School basketball teams in the country battling it out over a few days to be crowned champions.

No. 4 IMG put on a show this past week, beating Sunrise Christian to open the tournament and then upset No. 3 Montverde on Friday thanks to a spectacular play by Bacot who grabbed a rebound and made a perfect outlet pass:

Monteverde entered the tournament winning 4 of the past 6 titles but was upset by this IMG Academy team.

On Saturday, IMG completed their quest by taking down Indiana’s La Lumiere 66-65 featuring top prospects Isaiah Stewart and Keion Brooks. Bacot finished the game with just 6 points but did grab 8 rebounds in the win.

Bacot grabbed a total of 25 rebounds and scored 22 points in the three-game tournament. He displayed his unique skill-set in the paint and looked good even when the ball wasn’t in his hands, opening up things for his teammates.

The five-star recruit will now play in the Jordan Brand Classic on April 20th in Las Vegas to wrap up his high school career.

Next. UNC reaches out to another grad transfer. dark
