UNC Basketball: Cole Anthony doing Cole Anthony things in Atlanta
UNC basketball target Cole Anthony impresses at McDonald’s All-American Game
Just when you thought the Cole Anthony hype had hit a fever pitch, it reached new levels during the McDonald’s All-American festivities in Atlanta this week.
The 5-star prospect from Oak Hill Academy took home the McDonald’s All-American 3-point shootout title on Tuesday, knocking down 14 of his 17 attempts in the event. Less than 24 hours later, Anthony put on a show in the star-studded All-American Game that featured 24 of the best high school basketball players in the country.
The 6-foot-3, 183-pound Anthony scored 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while dishing out seven assists and pulling down five rebounds in leading the East squad to a 115-100 victory over the West. In doing so, he was named Most Valuable Player of the game, adding to the long list of accolades he’s collected over the past year.
One thing he’s yet do to, though, is announce his college decision; one that’s expected to take place at the beginning of April. His list of finalists includes Georgetown, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oregon and Wake Forest, though the overwhelming belief is that the Ducks and Tar Heels are the only two teams in contention at this point.
Rivals recruiting analyst Corey Evans went so far as to say that Anthony would, in fact, be joining the Tar Heels, and that it was only a matter of time. To seemingly further the Tar Heels’ advantage in the Anthony recruitment, the talented point guard recently stated that the possibility of playing with current UNC freshman Coby White would not prevent him from committing to North Carolina, saying that he would “have no problem with it” and that “it would work out”.
For now, though, the suspense remains high in Chapel Hill, and the anticipation great, as UNC fans await a commitment from a consensus top-5 player for the second consecutive season.
