Class of 2019 UNC Basketball recruiting target Cole Anthony reveals when he will likely make his decision and end his recruitment

The North Carolina Tar Heels are on to the Sweet 16 after beating No. 16 Iona and No. 9 Washington in the Midwest Regional and they looked pretty damn good doing it. Now UNC will take on No. 4 Auburn in Kansas City on Friday with a trip to the Elite 8 on the line.

While UNC is seeking out another National Championship, current high school recruits are getting set for the 2019 McDonald’s All-American Game in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Tar Heels have one recruit playing in the game, five-star center Armando Bacot, but they are in the running for three other recruits that were also named to the All-Star Game.

The biggest recruit UNC is still in the running for is five-star combo guard Cole Anthony who is ranked as a Top 3 player in the class. Anthony has taken a few unofficial visits as well as an official to Chapel Hill, showing strong interest in the program.

He was last there for an unofficial visit earlier in March as UNC completed their regular season sweep of Duke in the Dean Dome.

Anthony has trimmed his list and appears to be down to just five programs: UNC, Oregon, Notre Dame, Wake Forest and Georgetown. He’s taken officials to all of the schools on his list but the rumblings are that the Tar Heels are the favorites.

While preparing for the McDonald’s All-American Game this week, 247 Sports recruiting analyst Evan Daniels caught up with Anthony to get the latest on his recruitment. Anthony spoke on Roy Williams, possibly playing next to Coby White and even where he stands today.

One of the biggest takeaways was when Anthony plans to announce.

Daniels asked him about a rumored date of the Final Four for his announcement and Anthony revealed that a decision is likely coming early next month:

“I will probably make a decision early next month,” Anthony said via Daniels’ article. “If anything, we might do it during Geico (Nationals) that week.”

The Geico High School Nationals is a tournament featuring the top teams in the country and it takes place April 4-6th, which is Final Four weekend.

If UNC reaches the Final Four, along with Anthony’s decision, it has the potential to be a HUGE weekend for the Tar Heels.
