The UNC Basketball program is ranked in the top 3 as the Associated Press revealed its final regular season Top 25 poll

The final regular season Associated Press Top 25 poll is out as teams prep for the 2019 NCAA Tournament that begins this week.

While these rankings mean very little over the next few weeks, it’s still fun to see where the teams are placed going into the tournament. However, the only thing that matters over these next few weeks are your seed and matchup.

For the North Carolina Tar Heels, they will enter the NCAA Tournament as a No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region and are one of three Atlantic Coast Conference teams to earn a No. 1 seed this year. They join Duke and Virginia as the two other No. 1 seeds and all three teams are ranked in the Top 3 of the new AP Poll.

Duke takes over the No. 1 spot followed by No. 2 Virginia and then No. 3 North Carolina. The Tar Heels have been ranked No. 3 for the past two weeks now and it ties their highest ranking of the season.

Gonzaga dropped from the No. 1 spot down to No. 4 after their loss to Saint Mary’s in their conference championship game. Michigan State moved up to No. 5 after beating Michigan for a third time this season.

As for the rest of the Top 10, Tennessee moved up to No. 6 followed by No. 7 Kentucky, No. 8 Michigan, No. 9 Texas Tech and No. 10 Florida State.

The ACC has a total of four teams ranked in the Top 25 as we enter the tournament including those four that are in the Top 10. In addition to Duke, Virginia, UNC and Florida State, Virginia Tech is ranked No. 16 in the poll.

UNC will open up their 2019 NCAA Tournament by taking on No. 16 Iona on Friday night in Columbus, Ohio.
