5. Roy Williams

Roy Williams is tied to winning, greatness, and consistency. He has always been that way, regular season or during tournament time.

Not only is he one of the best regular season coaches, but he’s one of, if not the best, NCAA Tournament coaches in history.

Since 2002, the start of KenPom era, Roy Williams averages over three NCAA Tournament wins per year, more than a half-game more than the next closest, shown by the graphic below.

In addition, Williams ranks second in NCAA history in tournament wins (78), but since his return to Chapel Hill (’03-’04), he has more NCAA Tournament wins, Final Fours and national titles than any other coach.

There is really nothing more you can say than that – or the fact he has been to the National Championship game in two of the last three years.

Give me Roy Williams over any other coach in the country when it comes to this time of year. I’ll take my “chances” with him.
