UNC Basketball: Cole Anthony named to Naismith All-American team
By Zack Pearson
UNC Basketball recruiting target Cole Anthony was one of 15 players named to the Naismith All-American High School Basketball Teams
The North Carolina Tar Heels are still heavily in pursuit of five-star guard Cole Anthony as they look to add him to their 2019 recruiting class. Anthony is the top recruit left unsigned overall in this 2019 class and is at the top of UNC’s list.
The combo guard will be on campus Saturday night for UNC’s rematch with Duke, taking his third unofficial visit to Chapel Hill.
But before Anthony made the trip for Saturday’s game, he was honored for his play in his senior year of high school basketball.
The Oak Hill product was one of five high school players to be named to the Naismith’s High School Boys’ 2019 All-American First Team, announced by the Atlanta Tip-off club on Friday afternoon.
Anthony is joined by Duke commit Vernon Carey Jr., Georgia commit Anthony Edwards, Memphis commit James Wiseman and Washington recruit Isaiah Stewart. All five players on the list are five-star recruits in the 2019 class but only Anthony is uncommitted.
The third teams featured mostly seniors with a few juniors sprinkled into the mix. Kentucky and Arizona led the way with two recruits each on the three teams and six total players were uncommitted including UNC target Matthew Hurt.
Check out the second and third teams below:
Second team
- Sharife Cooper — Undecided
- Josh Green — Arizona
- Matthew Hurt — Undecided
- Tyrese Maxey — Kentucky
- Jaden McDaniels — Undecided
Third team

For Anthony, the honor is just the latest in his senior year at Oak Hill. He will play in the McDonald’s All-American Game later this month with his best friend and UNC commit Armando Bacot.
Both Anthony and Bacot will be on campus this weekend to take in the Duke game along with several other UNC recruiting targets.
