Coby White continues his impressive freshman season at UNC and has now passed Michael Jordan on the freshman scoring list

University of North Carolina freshman Coby White is putting together an historic season for the Tar Heels in 2018-19.

He was just named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player and Freshman of the Week and then earned national honors from CBS Sports. It was last week that White averaged 31 points in the Tar Heels’ two wins and set a new UNC record for the most 30-point games in a freshman season.

But as his season continues, White continues to climb up the all-time freshman scoring list.

During Tuesday’s game at Boston College, White continued his climb on that list and passed Michael Jordan for tenth all-time. White’s 462 points are now more than the 460 Jordan scored in his freshman season at UNC.

White has been fantastic all season long for the Tar Heels, starting at point guard since Game 1 for Roy Williams. We knew about his scoring ability as a recruit coming out of High School but he’s taken his game to the next level in his first year at Chapel Hill.

It’s likely White will be named to the All-ACC Rookie First Team when the regular season concludes and has a shot to add more to his legacy with the ACC Tournament coming up next week. There’s also a realistic chance that White will spend just one season in Chapel Hill as his draft stock has climbed as the season has gone on.

With just one regular season game left plus the ACC and NCAA Tournaments, White has a legit chance at catching Joseph Forte for No. 1 on the UNC freshman scoring list. Forte finished his freshman season with 600 points for the Tar Heels.

Next. Vince Carter passes Reggie Miller on scoring list. dark

Next up for UNC is a home game against Duke on Saturday night, followed by the ACC Tournament next week. For more on UNC Basketball, please check back with Keeping It Heel.
