The UNC Basketball program jumps up in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll released on Monday afternoon

The North Carolina Tar Heels were able to complete another 2-0 week in the Atlantic Coast Conference, fighting back to beat Syracuse on Tuesday and then surviving on the road at Clemson on Saturday.

With just two conference games left, we are hitting the stretch run of March and the Tar Heels have a shot at claiming at least a share of the ACC regular season title. There’s also the possibility of getting a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament as well.

But standing in their way of both of those things are a road game at Boston College and then a season-finale at home against Duke. When UNC begins this important week, they will do so as the No. 3 ranked team.

UNC climbed up two spots in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll released on Monday, going from No. 5 to No. 3 after a 2-0 week.

The Tar Heels jumped both Duke and Kentucky in the poll to move to No. 3 after both teams lost earlier in the week. The Blue Devils lost a tough road game at Virginia Tech while the Wildcats dropped their rematch to Tennessee on Saturday.

The No. 3 ranking is the highest for the Tar Heels this season, eclipsing last week’s previous high of No. 5.

Gonzaga stayed put at No. 1 as did Virginia at No. 2 but after that things were shaken up with the Tar Heels at No. 3, Duke at No. 4 and Tennessee back into the Top 5. Kentucky fell to No. 6, followed by No. 7 Michigan, No. 8 Texas Tech, No. 9 Michigan State and No. 10 LSU.

The ACC has a total of 5 teams ranked in this week’s Top 25 poll. In addition to UNC, Duke and Virginia, Florida State is ranked No. 14 and Virginia Tech is ranked No. 15.
