The UNC Basketball program climbs up three spots in the latest AP Top 25 poll following a 2-0 week in the ACC

It was a big week for the North Carolina Tar Heels’ basketball program, beating rival and then No. 1 Duke on the road and then capping it off with a double-digit home win over then No. 16-raned Florida State on Saturday.

The 2-0 week put UNC in a three-way tie atop the Atlantic Coast Conference standings with just a few games to go, making for an interesting finish this year.

Not only did UNC put themselves in great position for a double-bye, but they also proved to the nation that they are one of the top teams in the country and now the Associated Press is starting to believe that.

Following the 2-0 week, UNC climbed three spots in the latest AP Top 25 poll from No. 8 to No. 5, their highest ranking this season. The 2-0 week over two ranked teams helps UNC move up and also added to their resume as impressive wins.

With the loss to UNC, Duke dropped two spots to No. 3 as Gonzaga took over the top spot with Virginia climbing to No. 2 and Kentucky staying put at No. 4.

No. 6 Michigan State, No. 7 Tennessee, No. 8 Houston, No. 9 Michigan and No. 10 Marquette round out the Top 10. The Spartans, Cougars and Golden Eagles all moved up while the Volunteers and Wolverines both fell.

After moving up last week, the Kansas Jayhawks fell three spots to No. 15 following a blowout loss to Texas Tech on Saturday. This is the lowest ranking for Kansas in the poll since December of 2013.

A total of five ACC teams were ranked in the new poll, with Florida State falling to No. 18 and Virginia Tech staying put at No. 20 in addition to UNC, Virginia and Duke.

Also to note, Wofford has entered the poll at No. 24 for the first time this season. UNC opened up the 2018-19 season with a big road win at Wofford.
