UNC Basketball: Original Air Jordan I’s break record after sale
By Zack Pearson
An original pair of unworn Air Jordan I’s just sold for a crazy amount of money on eBay, becoming the latest Michael Jordan item to sell for a record.
Last week we told you about a rare Michael Jordan trading card that broke a record when it sold on eBay to a collector. Now, it’s a pair of his Air Jordan I’s that are setting a new record on the sneaker market place.
The original Air Jordan I is considered one of the best shoes to ever be produced and it was once banned from the NBA in Jordan’s rookie season. The shoe was an instant hit and helped launch a successful line that would eventually become Jordan Brand, which is still producing new shoes to this day.
According to Darren Rovell, an original pair of Air Jordan I’s sold on Feb. 24 for a whopping $10,099, setting a new record.
As you see in Rovell’s tweet above, the shoes were originally purchased in 1985 for $64.95 and come with the original bag, sold at The Athlete’s Foot.
The seller, Shoezeum, is known as the world’s first shoe museum and has an extensive collection of rare sneakers. Included in that collection was this pair of Air Jordan I’s that have never been worn before being purchased.
It’s pretty amazing to know that those shoes were never put on despite being sold in 1985 for the retail price.
This likely won’t be the last pair of Air Jordan shoes that breaks a new record, whether it be another pair of deadstock shoes or ones Jordan actually wore himself.
