This 4-star prospect will take in the Tar Heels’ game against Virginia on Monday night

An elite back court prospect will be on hand when North Carolina takes on Virginia in a game that could help determine the ACC regular season champion.

Cam Hayes, a 4-star point guard from the class of 2021, is expected to be in Chapel Hill when the Tar Heels take on the Cavaliers in the Dean Smith Center on Monday night, according to a report from Rivals recruiting analyst Eric Bossi. It’s his second such game at the Smith Center in three weeks as he was also in attendance for the Tar Heels’ 21-point beat-down of the Virginia Tech Hokies on January 21.

A 6-foot-2, 175-pound sophomore at Greensboro Day School, Hayes is already receiving a lot of attention from a number of big name programs including Clemson, NC State, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Each of the aforementioned have already extended a scholarship offer to Hayes, and he’s also been linked to Duke and Louisville.

The UNC coaching staff has begun to spend quite a bit of time recruiting Hayes over the past few months. Likewise, Tony Bennett and his crew have been pushing hard for Hayes, extending him a scholarship offer when he was on campus over the weekend. Given that two of the programs recruiting him hardest are facing off on Monday night, a visit to the UNC campus seems rather apropos.

Hayes has already visited Duke and Tennessee, and expressed interest in going back to Knoxville for the Volunteers’ March 2nd game against the Kentucky Wildcats.

Hayes is considered one of the top point guards in his class, heralded as an accomplished scorer, passer and leader on the court. He’s got good size and speed, as well as a knack for driving through the paint and getting to the basket. His toughness and decision-making abilities set him apart from other point guards in the class, and his recruitment is expected to reach an elite level with some of college basketball’s top programs before it’s over.

Currently ranked No. 33 overall in the 247Sports Composite, Hayes is the No. 3 point guard in the 2021 class, and the top prospect in the state of North Carolina.
