UNC Basketball’s NCAA Tournament seed if season ended today

The NCAA released their top 16 teams in their bracket reveal earlier today, with UNC basketball ranked in the top 10.

With the first release of the NCAA top 16 teams, meant to be the top four seeds in the four different regions, the Tar Heels come in at No. 7.

North Carolina, who sits at No. 8 in the AP Top 25, has won seven in a row, sitting at 19-4 (9-1) on the season.

Their latest win came just hours after the initial rankings Cam was out, beating Miami in an overtime thriller on Saturday afternoon.

The Atlantic Coast Conference currently has four teams ranked in the top 16, with Duke being ranked No. 1 in the NCAA top 16.

As it is slated in the rankings, the Tar Heels would be the two seed in the South region, with Tennessee being the one seed.

Meant to emulate the College Football Playoff rankings show that happens around the halfway point of the season, the NCAA will be updating these rankings on a weekly basis to keep up the chatter around the basketball world.

Virginia Tech, who is currently No. 11 in the AP Top 25 didn’t make the cut for the NCAA top 16, showing there are definitely some differences in what the committee is looking at compared to the AP Poll.

The Tar Heels face off against Virginia on Monday, and Duke on Feb 20, two of the top three teams in both the AP Poll as well as the NCAA rankings.

With so many quality opponents left on Carolina’s schedule, it is not out of the question that the Tar Heels could end up with a No. 1 seed come tournament time.
