The UNC Basketball program will wear their 1969 throwbacks when they host NC State in the Dean E. Smith Center on Tuesday night

When the North Carolina Tar Heels hit the court in the Dean Dome on Tuesday night vs. NC State, they will be doing so in style.

UNC will wear a special throwback for Tuesday’s showdown with the Wolfpack to honor the 50th anniversary of the 1969 team. That team went 27-5 overall and 12-2 in ACC play, finishing as conference champions for the third-straight season.

Although UNC fell short in the NCAA Tournament, finishing fourth, that ’69 team accomplished a lot. Their Final Four appearance was the third-straight in program history, the last time a UNC did has achieved that feat. They are also the last UNC team to win the ACC in three-straight seasons.

To help celebrate, UNC will break out those throwbacks that feature a white base with Carolina Blue lettering, numbers, trim and accents on both the top and the shorts.

Take a look at the jerseys sported by Nassir Little before Tuesday’s game:

But that’s not all. Jordan Brand has released a special edition jersey that pays homage to that 1969 team and Charlie Scott available in No. 33.  The jersey can be purchased at GoHeels.com, Fanatics and Johnny T-Shirt now!

Scott was the first African American scholarship athlete at UNC, offered by head coach Dean Smith and put together an impressive resume in his time with the program. He helped UNC win those three-straight ACC regular season titles as well as getting to the Final Four.

In the 1969-70 season, Scott averaged 22.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists before being selected by the Boston Celtics in the 1970 NBA Draft. Scott finished his career at UNC as a time All-American and a three-time All-ACC selection.

In 2018, Scott was enshrined into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame , just three years before being inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame back in 2015.
