National Signing Day: UNC target Eugene Asante announcement primer
By Zack Pearson
We preview the upcoming college announcement for UNC Football target Eugene Asante as he will make his decision on National Signing Day
North Carolina head coach Mack Brown is working on his first recruiting class in his return to the Tar Heels, despite being on the job for a few months now. Brown inherited a 2019 recruiting class from Larry Fedora and his staff, retaining some targets and then adding more during the Early Signing Period.
While the 2020 class will be his first one that he will have complete control of from the start, this 2019 class still has a chance to be a big one.
On National Signing Day, UNC will have the chance to land a few recruiting targets as they will make their big decisions.
One of those recruits is four-star outside linebacker Eugene Asante. The Virginia native is set to make his decision on Wednesday night, making one program’s recruiting class a little better come signing day.
Last week, Asante officially trimmed his list down to just five schools as he put UNC, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Nebraska on his final cut.
While UNC is in the running, many believe that Virginia Tech appears to be the favorites to land the in-state recruit. There has been six Crystal Ball predictions for the Hokies on 247 Sports including two back on February 1st.
But don’t count the Tar Heels out just yet.
UNC does have something working in their favor with this recruitment as they received the final official visit. Asante was on campus this past weekend in Chapel Hill to take his official visit just days before his scheduled announcement.
He visited Virginia Tech on December 14th and Florida State on January 25th. This recruitment has the feel of him landing with an ACC team as we are confident in saying the race is down to UNC, Virginia Tech and Florida State.
Brown has been working hard to build up this defense and adding Asante would be a huge get for 2019, especially with the Tar Heels landing a four-star linebacker for 2020 already.
Despite being on the job for just a few months, Brown has really built up this recruiting class and has it ranked in the Top 40 going into Wednesday. Landing a commitment from a four-star outside linebacker would be a huge get for Brown and his staff.
