UNC Basketball recruiting target Ziaire Williams breaks down the schools that are involved with him including the Tar Heels
Class of 2020 small forward Ziaire Williams has emerged as a top target for Roy Williams and the North Carolina Tar Heels recruiting class as the head coach hopes to build the future of the program.
With four-star center Day’Ron Sharpe already committed, Williams has his eyes set on other top prospects in the class.
One of those prospects happens to be the California native Williams who has already visited UNC unofficially. It’s no secret that there’s interest between the two sides and right now the Tar Heels might be the early favorite to land the recruit.
But they aren’t the only ones involved in his recruitment.
UNC, Arizona, Oregon, Stanford, Cal, Notre Dame, Virginia and UCLA are among the 16 offers he has earned as of now. For Williams, it’s hard to list off all of the schools showing significant interest.
Williams recently spoke to Corey Evans of Rivals to give an update of his recruitment and dished on the schools that are involved.
Here’s what he had to say about UNC:
"“I didn’t think that we were really interested in me but then we went there and I met Roy(Williams) and Coach (Steve) Robinson and the rest of the coaching staff and they were cool. We had a tournament in Sacramento and Roy Williams just randomly popped in and I just so happened to have a good game and then they offered me. It was exciting. It just showed that my hard work could pay off, but they can also take it away, too, so I just have to keep working.”"
Roy has shown that he wants to make Williams a priority by popping in to watch him at a tournament and welcoming him to Chapel Hill for some unofficial visits.
The five-star forward has visited Stanford for an official, his only one so far in this recruitment but he plans on taking on to Chapel Hill. While it appears as if Stanford and UNC are the two early favorites, Arizona is another program to keep an eye on.
Williams also told Evans that he plans on making a decision sometime before his senior year.
