UNC Basketball: Tar Heels recruit named to McDonald’s All-American Game
By Zack Pearson
Five-star center Armando Bacot has been named to the 2019 McDonald’s All-American Game as the rosters were announced on Thursday.
It was in the 2018 McDonald’s All-American Game where University of North Carolina recruit Nassir Little introduced him to the national stage by taking home the MVP in the nationally televised all-star game.
Now class of 2019 Tar Heels’ recruit Armando Bacot will have his chance to do the same.
Bacot was named to the 2019 McDonald’s All-American Game roster on Thursday afternoon, being placed on the East Roster. The rosters were announced live on ESPN naming 24 of the best high school basketball players from the 2019 class to the game.
Joining Bacot on the East roster are: Precious Achiuwa, Cole Anthony, Vernon Carey Jr. Anthony Edwards, Josiah James, Scottie Lewis, Jaden McDaniels, Wendell Moore, Isaiah Stewart, Trendon Watford.
Bacot is the lone UNC recruit to make it to the game but they are still actively pursuing a few recruits to pair with the center in their class.
Three of those recruits happen to be on the East roster with Bacot. The combo guard Anthony might be UNC’s best bet to add to the class as he’s shown significant interest in the program for months now, taking two unofficial visits and an official in that time.
Head coach Roy Williams has also pursued Achiuwa as of late, showing some interest in the forward. Edwards reclassified to 2019 just a few months ago and listed the Tar Heels in his final list.
Here’s a look at the West roster that will compete against the East:
Bryan Antoine, Josh Green, Matthew Hurt, Tre Mann, Nico Mannion, Tyrese Maxey , Isaiah Mobley , Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Oscar Tshiebwe, Kahlil Whitney, Samuell Williamson and James Wiseman.
The Tar Heels are actively recruiting Hurt as well, although they don’t appear to be in great shape with him going up against both Duke and Kansas in his recruitment.
The 42nd annual McDonald’s All-American Game will be held in Atlanta for the second-consective year and will take place on March 27th.
