UNC Basketball: Tar Heels drop one spot in latest AP Top 25 Poll
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Basketball team fell just one spot in the latest AP Top 25 poll after being blow out by Louisville at home on Saturday
The North Carolina Tar Heels were able to get off to a 2-0 start in Atlantic Coast Conference play with road wins over Pitt and NC State.
In last week’s win over then No. 15 NC State, the Tar Heels looked good on the road as they never trailed in the game and put it away late in the second half. The win put UNC at 2-0 with a home game against Louisville looming and the chance to go 3-0.
But then Saturday happened.
UNC came out flat against the Cardinals and never led in the game, falling behind by double-digits in the first half. Louisville was hot to start the game, making their first 8 field goal attempts and made 11 three-pointers in the rout. It was embarrassing to say the least.
Even with the loss, the Tar Heels really didn’t drop far in the latest Top 25 rankings. UNC dropped just one spot to No. 13 in the rankings that were released on Monday, a little bit of a surprise for fans.
The road win over NC State certainly helped UNC avoid a plummet in the rankings but the loss wasn’t good either.
As for the Top 10, Duke remained No. 1 in the rankings with a buzzer-beating win on the road over Florida State. Following the Blue Devils is No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Tennessee, No. 4 Virginia, No. 5 Gonzaga, No. 6 Michigan State, No. 7 Kansas, No. 8 Texas Tech, No. 9 Virginia Tech, and No. 10 Nevada.
The Seminoles climbed two spots from No. 13 to No. 11 despite the loss on Saturday.
Marquette was the biggest mover in the polls, jumping from No. 21 to No. 15 with wins over Creighton and Seton Hall this week.
The Atlantic Coast Conference has six teams ranked in the Top 25, led by No. 1 Duke, No. 4 Virginia, No. 9 Virginia Tech, No. 11 Florida State, No. 13 North Carolina and No. 17 NC State.
Up next for UNC is a matchup with Notre Dame at home on Tuesday night and then a road game at Miami on Saturday morning.
