What are the Tar Heels’ chances at a Keion Brooks commitment?

The North Carolina Tar Heels still have some serious holes in their 2019 recruiting class, and hope to fill one of those voids with one of eight remaining five-star prospects in the 247Sports Composite.

This recruiting cycle hasn’t been especially kind to Roy Williams and the Tar Heels, who’ve missed on a number of top-30 prospects including Josh Green, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Will Baker, Wendell Moore and Tre Mann. All five players were considered strong possibilities to commit to North Carolina at one point, but ultimately chose other schools.

Still, the Tar Heels have opportunities to shore up some of the current deficiencies in their recruiting class. One of those opportunities is Keion Brooks, a five-star small forward out of La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana.

The talented wing is ranked 22nd in the 247Sports Composite, and has a final list composed of six teams; Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State, North Carolina, Purdue and UCLA.

Despite having a half-dozen finalists, though, Rivals recruiting analyst Corey Evans believes that Brooks’ recruitment is down to just three schools. He also has some thoughts on where Brooks might be committing to, and when that announcement could come.

"“Brooks will be committing before [Cole] Anthony as he has completed all of his visits and is down to a final group consisting of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State, Purdue, UCLA and North Carolina. The Bruins are practically out and I fail to see him in East Lansing or West Lafayette. That brings us to Indiana, Kentucky and North Carolina. Indiana seems to be the stiffest competition for Brooks and while I could definitely see him in Chapel Hill, the lure of staying home and playing alongside former travel teammate Trayce Jackson-Davis may be too much to overcome for Roy Williams and his staff.”"

The 6-foot-8, 185 pound Brooks has long been considered a strong Indiana lean, and many believe it’s just a matter of time before he commits to the Hoosiers. 75 percent of Crystal Ball predictions — including that of lead expert Jerry Meyer — place Brooks in Bloomington next year.
