Will Cole Anthony commit to North Carolina? This recruiting analyst thinks so.

Still looking to make their big splash in the 2019 recruiting class, Roy Williams and the North Carolina Tar Heels continue to push hard for some of the nation’s last remaining uncommitted five-star prospects.

Among those — and perhaps the crown jewel — is Cole Anthony, a New York native and the son of former 12-year NBA veteran Greg Anthony. The 6-foot-3, 184-pound prodigy is a consensus top-5 prospect, but considered by many to be the No. 1 player in the 2019 class.

After a fantastic junior season at Archbishop Molloy — and a performance on the Nike EYBL circuit to match it — Anthony became one of the most coveted prospects in the nation. Scholarship offers from colleges all over the country came in, including ones from Duke, Kansas, Georgetown, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Oregon and UCLA.

Once the dust settled, though, Anthony trimmed his list to just six schools, and that’s where it appears to be staying until the time of his commitment. That commitment, one that is expected to span most, if not all, of the current college basketball season, will come down to Georgetown, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oregon and Wake Forest.

And despite the fact that Anthony still has six teams on his list, Rivals recruiting analyst Corey Evans believes that his recruitment will likely come down to a decision between just two of his finalists.

"“Anthony, the top-ranked lead guard in the 2019 class, just took his final official visit over the weekend to Wake Forest. The Deacons are joined by Georgetown, Miami, Notre Dame, Oregonand North Carolina on his final list. However, this is more of a two-horse race between the Ducks and the Tar Heels. Picking between the two remains difficult and while the Ducks have gained a lot of traction of late, I still expect Anthony to pick North Carolina at the end of the day.”"

According to predictions from 44 percent of recruiting experts on 247Sports — namely Director of Basketball Scouting, Jerry Meyer — the Tar Heels are the current favorite to land Anthony.

Anthony’s been credited as one of the most athletic players in the class, and has a competitive edge that is rivaled by few. He’s a talented offensive player, a terrific rebounder – particularly for a 6-foot-3 guard – and a gifted passer. There’s not a spot on the court that you have to hide his weaknesses, because he really doesn’t have any. He may be the most complete player in the class.

He’s the No. 3 prospect in the class of 2019 according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the top player at his position, and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Virginia.
