Senior Cameron Johnson had to leave North Carolina’s road game at NC State on Tuesday night with a knee injury in the second half

The North Carolina Tar Heels are in Raleigh to take on NC State in a battle of Top 15 teams on Tuesday night.

UNC opened up the game on a big run, jumping out to a 19-5 lead early on the road. The Tar Heels were in control and fought off a few Wolfpack rallies, taking a 47-42 lead at halftime.

The Wolfpack have been able to claw back a few times and keep it close throughout the early part of the second half.

But with the lead and just 11:59 left in the game, the Tar Heels saw something they really don’t want to see.

Senior forward Cameron Johnson fell down as players scrambled for the ball and grabbed his knee right away. He was instantly in pain holding his knee as trainers attended to him.

Johnson was able to get up and walk-off under his own power but had to go back to the locker room. The forward’s leg stayed straight as he tried not to bend it while walking off.

It’s way too early to speculate what exactly it is and the hope is that it’s just a cramp and he can return.

Johnson has been UNC’s best player so far this season, shooting close to 50 percent from behind the three-point line. In Tuesday’s game, Johnson had 15 points and was 4-of-7 from the three-point line.

Freshman Nassir Little replaced Johnson in the game as the Tar Heels hope to hold this lead in the final 10 minutes of the game.
