Final Thoughts

After adding all of those records up, the Heels finish 14-4 in conference and will be atop the rankings almost all year.

With the series split of Duke and the loss to Virginia, I think they finish top three in the ACC, at the highest, second overall.

The Cavaliers have two difficult matchups with Duke, as in their first matchup they have Virginia Tech the game before, and the second matchup they have the Tar Heels right after. Besides that, they don’t play another ranked team in their last seven conference games.

Duke, on the other hand, has a relatively ‘easy’ schedule with only one tough stretch starting with Virginia on the road, then at Louisville, home against N.C. State, and finishing off with the Tar Heels at home.

Florida State has a tough start and finish to the conference slate.  They visit Virginia, then play host to Duke two games later to kick off ACC play, then have N.C. State and Virginia Tech in two out of their last three games, albeit both at home.

For the Hokies, they will get off to a hot start playing only two ranked teams in their first eight games but finish with Virginia, Duke and Florida St in three out of their last five games.

Top 5 Standings

  1. Virginia Cavaliers (15-3)
  2. Duke Blue Devils (15-3)
  3. North Carolina Tar Heels (14-4)
  4. Virginia Tech Hokies (12-6)
  5. Florida State Seminoles (12-6)
